Come learn about Tyrus Won, the creator of BAMBI, a very accomplished artist who recently passed away at the age of 106!

Samurai Journey in Japan – Sunday, July 16, 2017

Join local Glendale martial artist, Narbeh Bagdasarian, for his slide show as he shares his recent trip to Japan where he re-traces the steps of two famous Samurai as he visits two different caves where they both trained and received “Satori” – Enlightenment.

The Elegant Stick – Sunday, July 16, 2017

The “simple stick” has been used by a variety of cultures for self-defense. Join us as we learn techniques from Japanese, Filipino and Indonesian traditions with gurus David Feldman and Michael Belzer!

“Let’s Have Tea” with Nakada Sensei – Sunday, August 20, 2017
9am – 3pm
Drop in and have a cup of fabulous matcha tea and a traditional sweet while you watch Keiko Nakada Sensei teach her tea ceremony class to her regular students. Walk around the Friendship Garden and enjoy!

Omotosenke Tea Ceremony – Sunday, September 17, 2017
10am – Noon . $20 donation
Omotosenke has its own customs and traditions that we would like to highlight for you with the tea ceremony demonstration. Come and learn the very unusual and interesting story about the style of tea and the others that are associated with it.

Japanese Haiku & Zen Koan – Sunday, October 15, 2017
10am – Noon . $20 donation
Join us as we learn about Haiku Poetry and how to write it. We will also learn about Zen Loans and how ther were used for spiritual growth, insight and enlightenment.

Tama-Do: The Way of Sound Healing – Sunday, October 15, 2017

Experience how the power of sound and vibration can assist the healing process!

Kimono Fashion Show & Class – Sunday, November 19, 2017

Join us as Takako Sasaki gives us a “kimono show” where we will see many different kimono and enjoy some tea and a sweet! Learn about Jaoan’s “Coming of Age” ceremony and how important the kimono is as both young women and men transition into adults.

Drumming & the Martial Arts – Sunday, November 19, 2017
1pm – 4pm . $20 donation
Join local master drummer Gerald Rivers and Sensei Michael Belzer as you learn how timing, rhythm, distance and relaxed focus are related to both hand drumming (using the djembe) and the higher levels of the martial arts by practicing Filipino stick fighting.

Annual Holiday Tea & Japan Culture Day – Sunday, December 17, 2017

Join us for our biggest event of the year where we feature two tea ceremonies, Taiko drums, Calligraphy (shodo), Koto music, martial arts (budo), Japanese massage, a great food truck and more!
